Energy Code Implementation: Single Family New Construction

Since the energy code update took effect in January 2023, the industry is adjusting to design, detailing and construction to meet compliance. In this series, we’ll review the code requirements with a focus on what to include in construction documents to streamline the permitting process and tips for construction to ease signoffs and occupancy.

Energy Code Compliance: Using HERS Measures (Part 1)

Third-party verification through HERS measures is a great way to improve energy performance and, more to the point, meet the Title 24 Energy code. In this two-part course, we’ll cover what architects and builders need to know to successfully integrate HERS measures into residential design and construction. Part 1 will provide an overview of HERS verification, show how it fits into the building code and address envelope-related HERS measures.

Batteries: Options and implementation for a building’s energy storage system

Whether you’re interested in resiliency and cost savings for a home or simply meeting energy codes for new construction, understanding battery storage is increasingly important for the building industry. In this course, we’ll go over battery types, what’s currently available and what’s on the horizon, how to size a battery for code compliance or other goals, and what to look for in implementation.

Introduction to the Energy Code

This course provides an overview of the California Energy Code, Title 24 Part 6, including the historic context, organization, resources and overall goals for this current code cycle. Serving as an optional refresher for code officials, architects and builders who will be participating in 2022 energy code classes, or as an introduction for those entering the building industry, this course will provide a strong foundation for design, permitting and compliance.

Residential Compliance Forms for Occupancy

As a follow-up to “Residential Compliance Forms for Permitting”, we will build on the initial compliance forms used for the building permit to understand what measures are required during construction and how to demonstrate compliance. This course is beneficial for architects, engineers and other design professionals, builders, owners and developers, plans examiners, and others who are interested in efficiency and accuracy in energy code compliance.

Residential Compliance Forms for Permitting

We will walk through the 2022 Residential Title 24 energy code compliance forms, highlighting the areas that are significant to the project’s results. We’ll discuss what goes into the forms, how to identify errors and inconsistencies and how to get it right the first time. This course is beneficial for architects, engineers and other design professionals, builders, owners and developers, plans examiners, and others who are interested in efficiency and accuracy in energy code compliance.
