What Energy Consultants Need To Know About QII
Quality Insulation Installation (QII) is a process for verifying that a home’s thermal envelope is properly sealed and insulated. Without this verification, insulation is assumed to be poorly installed and it is significantly de-rated. In the 2019 energy code, QII is now a prescriptive measure. To pass QII requires a lot of planning and coordination between the energy consultant, HERS rater, installer, and the general contractor/builder. This session will discuss how energy consultants can play a major role in making sure that the house passes QII without any problems.
Non-Residential Tenant Improvements and Alterations
This class covers the enforcement of the CA Energy Code requirements as they apply specifically to non-residential tenant improvements and alterations.
QII For Contractors
In the 2019 California Energy Code, QII (Quality Insulation Installation) changed from a credit measure to prescriptive measure, meaning it sets the target for compliance. QII is a protocol for the verification of proper installation of insulation in newly constructed homes. It is based on industry standards and manufacturer’s instructions.
Residential Additions and the Energy Code
This one hour class is designed to train building department staff on how to improve enforcement of the CA Title 24 Energy Code as it applies to “residential additions”. An “Addition” is defined in the energy code as adding conditioned square footage and volume to an existing house. Additions have their own set of prescriptive measures and are treated specially in the performance approach, in that compliance for the addition can be achieved by making improvements to the existing house. This is called “Existing + Addition + Alteration” or “E+A+A.” This class will also discuss the compliance documentation needed for additions and how to use the HERS registries to keep track of them.
