2019 Residential CEA Exam Preparation Workshop

Description: 

This half-day course helps energy consultants prepare to take the both the multiple-choice and the modeling portions of the Nonresidential Certified Energy Analyst (CEA) and Associate Energy Analyst (AEA) exams for the 2019 Energy Code, which are administered through CABEC.

The session includes key information about how the exam was developed and exam-taking tips, an overview of exam competencies and objectives, sample questions and study resources for the multiple-choice portion and — for the modeling portion — information how your model will be scored, strategies to help you assess a project for modeling, tips for organizing take-offs and guidance on how to check modeling results for errors and resolve common mistakes.

This class also provides participants with a sample project to complete on your own, including plans, take-offs, and solution model (BLD and RIBD) files.

Instructors:

  • Brian Selby
    • Brian is a Principal at Selby Energy, Inc., where his primary role is delivering energy code training for the Energy Code Ace Title 24 Essentials courses. He also provides Title 24 consulting services for residential and commercial projects.
  • Chandra Apperson
    • Chandra is a Senior Manager at Apperson Energy Management where her duties include project and office management, sales, marketing, as well as preparation of compliance and verification documentation.

Course Objectives:

  • Describe the CEA exam development process and structure
  • Identify the competencies and objectives that are represented in the Residential CEA exam
  • Identify appropriate study resources and describe how to use them effectively
  • Describe multiple-choice test taking tips and strategies
  • Describe the types of mistakes most commonly made when modeling
  • Perform plan take-offs for a new construction residential project and apply appropriate strategies to accurately model Residential projects using Energy Commission approve compliance software
  • Review an existing model and associated reports to identify and resolve errors
