Targeting Zero Net Carbon Design: Zero Net Carbon Design Series

May 23 @ 12:00 pm - 1:30 pm

REGISTER

The Zero Net Carbon Design (ZNCD) Series, will begin with the background and an overview of carbon in the building industry, then focus content on energy performance and renewable energy, water-savings as energy-savings, embodied carbon, and finally regenerative design.

The courses have been developed to fulfill the new California requirement for architects to have five hours of ZNCD education as part of their license renewal. Although created with architects in mind, the content is broadly applicable across the building industry.

There are 1.0 HSW|LUs available for Class 1, we encourage you to register for the rest of the series for the full 5 hours of learning units.

Class 1: Targeting Zero Net Carbon

Design

How do we move beyond “zero net energy” to a true zero net carbon? This course provides an overview of carbon’s role in the building industry, the key drivers for targeting reductions, and an overall approach to evaluating both embodied and operational carbon.

Learning Objectives:

  • Define zero net carbon and its relationship to zero net energy
  • Understand the fuel mix of the power grid and how it influences California’s energy code
  • Identify common tools and standards for evaluating carbon emissions and sequestration
  • Differentiate between operational and embodied carbon, and identify key mitigations
