Developing the Decarbonization Workforce

3C-REN has established a new partnership with SunWork Renewable Energy Projects to offer hands-on heat pump water heater (HPWH) installation training to the Central Coast. This program allows participating tradespeople to earn volunteer stipends* by participating in residential HPWH installations, with a goal of expanding the workforce capable of installing HPWHs.

Participants in this initiative will:

  • Work alongside experienced installers
  • Gain practical experience installing HPWHs in real homes
  • Learn essential aspects of HPWH equipment, sizing, siting, and best installation practices

To learn more and get apply, please fill out the interest form or check out our flyer.
*To earn stipends, you must be a licensed contractor or be an employee of a licensed contractor in the tri-county region. Stipends limited to two full day installs.

Protecting Central Coast Energy Efficiency Programs

Energy efficiency programs are key to helping California’s Central Coast meet climate goals and ensure residents’ homes are healthy and comfortable. But these programs—including 3C-REN’s—might be at risk as early as 2025 due to potential state legislation.

Our geographical isolation from major hubs like Los Angeles and San Francisco means we’re less likely to benefit from programs based in those areas. That’s why 3C-REN’s services are crucial, investing funds back into our region and offering vital support to our local communities.

Since its inception in 2019, 3C-REN has been pivotal in reducing carbon emissions—providing energy code support, industry training, and residential incentives for home energy efficiency projects. Our programs drive economic growth, lower energy costs, and promote sustainability across the Central Coast. To that end, we are advocating for continued funding for energy efficiency programs.

Our successes highlight the critical need to preserve energy efficiency funding, ensuring the continuation of essential and localized work across the Central Coast. 3C-REN’s programs prioritize communities hit hardest by energy costs, climate impacts, and the energy transition.

Looking ahead, 3C-REN will continue with the implementation of the $155 million earmarked for its 8-year business plan, focused on enhancing energy efficiency in commercial buildings, public sector buildings, and agricultural facilities. Stay tuned for more information.

3C-REN in the Community

The 3C-REN team hosted a training session at the Center for Employment Training in Oxnard. Approximately 40 students learned about a comprehensive, whole-house approach to addressing issues related to comfort, energy efficiency, air quality, and durability in homes. Check out our calendar of events for more hands-on and in-person training opportunities.

The Multifamily Home Energy Savings team held a mixer for property owners to learn ways to achieve comprehensive upgrade projects for their properties. Solar, EV, and energy efficiency incentive programs were all highlighted in presentations from 3C-REN, Central Coast Community Energy (3CE), and Solar on Multifamily Affordable Housing (SOMAH). The event was hosted in the Community Environmental Council’s Environmental Hub.

All 3C-REN programs and services are free to participants in the tri-county region.
